Three people were injured after a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of South 15th Street and Second Avenue South Sunday afternoon, according to Officer Matt Webb, of the Fort Dodge Police Department.

The injuries are believed to be non-life-threatening, Webb reported.

Names of the crash victims were not available as of Sunday night.

The accident was reported at 2:11 p.m.

A man with three passengers was driving a Ford Focus and traveling eastbound on Second Avenue South, according to Webb.

A Chrysler Town and Country minivan driven by a woman was traveling northbound.

The man reportedly failed to stop at the stop sign causing the van to crash into the passenger side of the vehicle, Webb reported.

“The van ended up hitting the car square on the passenger side between both doors and it hit with enough force to damage both doors and bend the frame of the car,” Webb said. “It hit with quite a bit of force.”

Webb reported that the van left no skid marks, an indication that the woman had little time to react.

Webb estimated the van could have been traveling about 35 mph.

“We are thinking it was probably straight on impact without braking,” Webb said. “Even at lower speeds than that can do some serious damage.”

Both drivers and a juvenile girl were transported to UnityPoint Health — Trinity Regional Medical Center.

The Fort Dodge Police Department was assisted on scene by the Fort Dodge Fire Department.
