Airport fuel truck fire contained
A fuel truck caught fire at the Fort Dodge Regional Airport Sunday morning, but its dangerous cargo did not ignite.
The fire was contained to the truck’s engine and cab.
The fire was reported at 8:47 a.m. Sunday.
Fire Chief Steve Hergenreter said the truck’s cab was totally engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived.
The fire did not spread to the rest of the truck, another fuel truck parked nearby or a fuel tank.
“They did a phenomenal job of responding,” said Rhonda Chambers, the airport’s director of aviation.
She said the truck carried a fuel called 100 low lead, which is for aircraft that do not have jet engines. She said planes that use that fuel can still get it from a pump at the airport.
Fort Dodge and Badger firefighters responded.
