Backers begin selling plan
Sara Hill, a member of the steering committee for the proposed aquatic center, stands beside the planned site near 10th Avenue North and 32nd Street North. Voters will go to the polls Aug. 26 to determine the $8.9 million project’s fate.
On Aug. 26, Fort Dodge voters will say yes or no to a civic aquatic center.
The facility would be financed through issuance of $8.95 million in general obligation bonds, which would be repaid through property tax revenue.
Proponents of the project, which will be situated on donated land at the corner of North 32nd Street and 10th Avenue North, say that the aquatic center is a ‘‘dire need’’ of the city.
‘‘Time is somewhat of the essence,’’ said Neven Mulholland, chairman of the initiative.
