Moving among characters of the past

May 27, 2008

Today’s populace will be able to move among previous citizens who shaped early Fort Dodge during the seventh annual Oakland Cemetery Walk on June 14.

A walking tour through the historic cemetery on North 15th Street, the event brings the community’s past alive by having costumed characters buried on the rolling, shaded hills share information about themselves and the time period in which they lived.

The walk will begin at 1 p.m., and each tour is expected to last about 90 minutes. A rain date has been set for June 15.

Tickets are $5 with proceeds going toward the preservation of Oakland Cemetery. They can be purchased the day of the event at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 1436 21st Ave. N.

Walkers will meet at the church parking lot where shuttle buses will be available to take them to the cemetery every 15 minutes. No parking will be permitted in Oakland.
