D/SAOC offers advocate training
The Domestic/Sexual Assault Outreach Center will offer free advocate training to those interested in helping victims of domestic violence. The level one training will be 5 to 9 p.m. on Sept. 19 and from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sept. 20 and 21. Anyone interested in taking the training should contact D/SAOC at 955-2273 to preregister. The training will help advocates learn how to recognize abuse, how to help victims assert power and control and how to empower a victim. When training is complete, these volunteers will be able to carry the crisis phone after the office has closed and they may get calls from people who need help.

Karbula to discuss making of memoirs
WEBSTER CITY — Marie Karbula will discuss the process of creating her family memoirs book, “The Footpaths of My Life,” at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Hamilton Heritage Hunters Genealogical Society meeting at the Kendall Young Library.
