Operation Christmas to open for donations
With Operation Christmas about to open for the holidays, organizers agree that greater help may be needed. “Money did not come in as well last year,” said co-chairman Ruth Reed. “We’ve had to cut back on our services.” Still, she said, an influx of money now will give the program a big boost. “This year we’re concerned about the economy,” she said. “People may not be giving as much, and more people may need help. We’ll just do as much as we can.” Reed and Gwen Anderson are chairmen of this annual holiday help project. Applications are taken from families who need help fpr the holiday, with emphasis given to families with children, Reed said. Operation Christmas will open Tuesday to start taking donations in the former Hancock Fabrics space at the Crossroads Mall. Clothing donations will be accepted through Dec. 7, but no clothing will be accepted after that date. Clothing not taken by applicants by then will be passed on to other organizations.
