Dodgers try to bridge gap
The Fort Dodge boys golf team looks to build from last fall’s successful campaign and state tournament appearance, but questions will likely follow the Dodgers in the early portion of their season. Seventh-year head coach Tommy Thompson’s squad travels to Ames today to compete in the first leg of the CIML Iowa Conference meet. The Fort Dodge golfers are anchored by three returning regulars — seniors Austin Marrow, Ryan Rustvold and Casey Stevens. Seniors Brady Johnson and Justin Nolta, as well as freshman Colin Pearson, will round out the varsity squad for today’s action. Thompson expects the most out of his crew in the weeks to come, despite heavy graduation losses. ‘‘We had quite a few solid seniors that were in the program for four years. That’s always difficult to replace.’’ The Dodgers hosted Marshalltown in an 18-hole dual on Monday in what proved to be a rocky start. ‘‘We didn’t start out the greatest. We’re better than the scores we posted,’’ said Thompson.
