Prairie Valley returns to semifinals
GOWRIE — Prairie Valley’s relentless pursuit of hoisting a state championship football trophy became a step closer to reality here Friday. Sparked by their dynamic backfield duo of senior Jon Elmore and junior Caden Duncan, the unbeaten and fourth-ranked Warriors (12-0) punched their second straight ticket — and second in school history — to the Class 1A semifinals with a resounding 34-0 home shutout in the quarterfinals against District 7 foe Woodward-Granger (9-3). With the monumental victory, Prairie Valley advances to meet No. 2 Council Bluffs St. Albert (12-0) in the semifinals next Saturday. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. inside the UNI-Dome in Cedar Falls. The tradition-rich Falcons edged defending state runner-up and fifth-rated West Lyon yesterday evening, 24-21. “This means everything for our program to reach this point again,” said sixth-year PVHS head coach Mike Swieter.
