Seven area girls on INA All-State team
Seven Messengerland girls basketball standouts were recently selected to the 2010 INA all-state teams. In 2A, 6-foot-1 senior forward Mika Rodewald made the elite squad for state runner-up Manson Northwest Webster, which went 24-2 overall. Rodewald produced 19.0 points and 8.6 boards a night for the Cougars. Rodewald was previously a second team INA all-state pick as a junior. Newell-Fonda’s Susan Kies and Rebekah Rolling of North Central Kossuth were each tabbed to the top squad in Class 1A. Kies helped lead the Mustangs to a 23-3 overall record and the 1A state semifinals. The 5-foot-4 senior point guard and reigning 1A softball player of the year paced Newell-Fonda in scoring (18.4 points per game), steals (3.4 spg) and three-point shooting at 36.7 percent (44 of 120). The athletic Kies was also an INA first team all-state nominee as a sophomore for the 1A runner-up Mustangs but missed most of last season with a knee injury.
