University of Iowa foundation donations up
IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) - The University of Iowa is having a good year so far in collecting donations.
The university's foundation says donations are up about 5% so far this year.
Susan Shullaw, senior vice president of the university's foundation, says the increase could be due in part to the confidence and optimism brought by President Sally Mason, who began her new job in August.
Shullaw says donors often respond well to steady leadership.
Contributions rose to $136 million for the third quarter, which ended March 31. That compares with $130 million last year. Of that total abot $120 million was donated directly to the foundation. Last year it was about $108 million.
Donations directly to the university fell from $21 million to just under $16 million but Shullaw says contributions directly to the university tend to fluctuate, and the swing is not significant.
