This sounds about as dumb as the bored lottery winners project.

No, I'm pretty sure this is the dumbest thing yet. FD wants downtown to redevelop with projects like this but, doesn't think something like a 90 room hotel downtown is the answer-it's a low-rent mini-golf course??? I was chatting with friends about this one while taking breaks for laughter and started to think this could be cool if each room told a story of FD's past. For instance, one room could be called the "Let's Get A Casino In This Town!" where you get a green ball(representing bribe money) that you try and shoot into the pocket of a state gaming official-lol! Maybe a meth lab themed hole. You could put little boats in the bath tub with holes representing the former ICCC president's boating excapades. Call this room "Have Another Shot!" The potential is comically endless!

Angela Torres, the associate city planner, recommended approving the special exception because the project will have no apparent negative impact on surrounding properties and will help to revitalize the downtown? But if you want to put up a sign in the air on 5th south so people can see where your business is located from a distance they would turn you down (unless the owner has connections) even if it didn't have no apparent negative impact on surrounding properties and will help to revitalize the 5th south corridor.

Hmm, FD has one miniature golf course located at a car wash. I visited it once in my life, and I am 44 now. I went there ONE time in my life. I do not see a large miniature golf following in FD. When the novelty of being new wears off, they will be done. Much like the Frisbee golf courses in the parks are not used much.

Well, if there is a doctors office next to it, I could see the doctors there during their breaks. It gives them a chance to work on their short game and still be available.

This will never, ever, ever, ever, make any money. No one wants to play putt putt golf indoors around appliances and under tables.

If I was a bored lottery winner I would invest millions in wind turbines and sit back and watch the money come in, not build a bumper boat park in a town with a median age of what, 60 or so? Who talked them into this crazy idea?

IT MAKES ME SICK TO READ SUCH NEGATIVE COMMENTS! IT IS NICE THAT SOMEONE IS TAKING INTEREST IN THE FAMILIES OF FORT DODGE. I HOPE THOSE OF YOU BASHING ARE OUT THERE TRYING TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE INSTEAD OF JUST PICKING ON WHAT OTHERS ARE TRYING TO DO!

this is wonderful! fort dodge needs more things/places to socialize in the area to do other than just bars.

Funny you say that hybernation because, I was just thinking, the only way to keep a business open in Catholic Town is to sell liquor & keep the place open until 2-lol!

@ FDGolfer IF you were a lotto winner, but maybe some people want to live in FD. but want more things to do. those who create things in FD. for people to do are what is called unselfish people if you don't like FD. then why don't you move away?? instead of complaining about some people trying to make it a nicer place to live!are you such a negative close minded person you only see the bad in everything? you must have a sad life!

I hope they make it but it looks like a tough sell. We have had skating rinks, other mini golf courses and even a par 3 course that went under. I don't think the people have the disposable income to spend on these things like they did years ago when we had better paying jobs like Hormel, Iowa Beef, New Idea, Coats, Standard Engineering, Gus Glazers, Land of Lakes, Webster City Products, 4 Gypsum mills that were running around the clock, and other companies with many employees that could support these things. Even our bowling alleys fell on hard times when alot of these places closed their doors. We are a town of under 24000 people with less spendable wages for entertainment then years ago. We can't really rely on our 1200 citizens that are counted in our city population but are kept locked up at the prison. I don't think they will be left out to go play mini golf.

When WILL you all begin to consider just why Iowa ranks near the bottom among business locators? Tip: taxes, business and personal.
