Could it be due to the fact that Wellmark seeks and gets 8%-12% rate increases every December.

My experience with Wellmark is that they continue to jack up the premium no matter what. I have had them for 3 years and every year they have raised my premiums anywhere from 12-20% even though I have never gone above my family deductible. I am seriously searching for a less-expensive alternative. I don't trust anything that any executive from Wellmark (or any other health insurance company, for that matter) says.

Sounds like sour-grapes. Wellmark is not happy about losing the contract. Competition is good and United Health Care is one of the largest Health Insurers in the country. Good choice.

Just wait until a few serious medical claims wipe out the self funding money. Not a wise choice again by the superintendent and board. I hope everyone stays healthy.

My wife USED to have Wellmark BC/BS and they priced themselves right out of our price range. Like a lot of folks said here, they constantly raised their premiums. Guess they need to pay for that new multi-million office down in Des Moines.
