Members of the Fort Dodge Senior High and St. Edmond speech teams will advance to state individual speech competition March 14 at Iowa Central Community College.
The two speech teams competed at the district individual speech contest at Manson Northwest Webster High School on Feb 28. Those receiving a division "I" rating will advance to the state competition.
Seventeen St. Edmond students competed in the categories of poetry, prose, public address, musical theater, acting, storytelling, after dinner speaking, literary program, reviewing and radio news.
Students receiving division "I" ratings were Ali Davis, Emily Patz, Adrian Cagaanan, Sean O'Brien, Evan Eide, Lia Peralta, Audra Marvin, Katelyn Stein, Hillary Hotz, Liz Griffin, Rebecca Willerth and Joe Schomberg.
Students receiving division 'II" ratings were Samantha Mallinger, Sadie Keegan, Emily Hindt, Danielle Border and Stephanie Biggins.
The St. Edmond Speech Team is coached by Susan Helling.
Fort Dodge Senior High students receiving division "I" ratings were Arthur Chou, spontaneous speaking; Rachel Amhof, prose and poetry; Kristen Delaney, poetry and solo musical theater; Ryan Crowl, improvisational acting; Tristan Clark, improvisational acting; Diana Chou, original oratory; Lani Duncan, solo musical theater; Catherine Shook, literary program and storytelling; and Sophia Huang, acting and storytelling.
Students receiving division "II" ratings were Kelli Schnurr, solo musical theater amd literary program; and Rusty McEntire, improvisational acting.
