The Church of the Damascus Road, a prison congregation of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America that serves in the Fort Dodge Correctional Facility and the North Central Correctional Facility in Rockwell City, is changing pastoral leadership.

The Rev. Carroll Lang, who began the ministry on Aug. 1, 1997, in Rockwell City and in May 1998 at Fort Dodge, has retired, and the congregation has called Rev. Paul E. Stone as its pastor.

Stone was trained by the Iowa Department of Corrections for two weeks in March, then shadowed Lang for two weeks before becoming the sole pastor.

Lang has volunteered to serve in the ministry of Re-entry Reintegration, training community teams of five to seven people to assist ex-offenders to make successful transitions into society. He will train and oversee the work of the teams in Northwest Iowa west of I-35 and north of I-80, and be a resource when bumps in the road occur.
