Wartburg names Outstanding Seniors

WAVERLY - Wartburg College has named Outstanding Seniors for the 2008-2009 academic year.

Area students so honored are:

Clarion: Austin Warnke, son of Craig and Katy Warnke, outstanding senior in history secondary education.

Dayton: Margaret Croft Runaas, daughter of David and Linda Croft of Pella, outstanding senior in the Bachelor of Music program. A pianist, Runaas has performed a solo recital in each of her four years at Wartburg, represented the State of Iowa in the regional MTNA competition in 2008 and is an accomplished accompanist in the Music Department. She has performed with the Castle Singers, Chapel Choir and Symphonic Band and played for Sunday services at Peace United Church of Christ in Waverly from 2006 to 2008. She is completing a minor in German and spent Wartburg's May term in Germany in 2006 and 2008.

Fort Dodge: Katelyn Thompson, daughter of David and Susan Thompson, outstanding senior in biochemistry. Thompson has been a standout competitor on the women's golf team, placing at the national NCAA Division III meet and serving as team captain. She also been active in service projects, worked as a volunteer at the Waverly Health Center and used her Spanish skills to help elementary school students learning English as a second language. She will attend medical school.
