Sometimes the good news is really overwhelming

Good news.

Sierra Mueller's brain surgery recovery is doing better than expected, from the doctor's point of view.

Sierra, the 9-year-old daughter of John and Steph Mueller, of West Des Moines, had surgery at the Children's Hospital of Wisconsin in Milwaukee on Jan. 5. She has started intense physical therapy, and though in a lot of pain, continues to work at getting better.

John is a 1995 graduate of Fort Dodge Senior High. His friend in Dodge, Josh Calvert, sends updates on Sierra's conditions.

"John and Steph appreciate everyone's thoughts and prayers," he wrote. "Keep them coming!!! We still have the fund set up at Wells Fargo (Josh Calvert donation account for Sierra Mueller) if you wanted to help the Muellers. Even if it's $10 or $20, every dollar will count towards bringing Sierra Mueller home healthy."

That is good news.

And good news of a different nature - more fun, for sure - comes from Deb and Ross Nemitz at Ross' Appliance Center.

Seems their 26-year-old son, Jordon, just earned the title of Hottest Bod in the World and a $10,000 check to go with it.

About four months ago, his girlfriend entered him into a competition by Body Heat cologne. He made it through the multitude of men entered to a semi-final grouping of three.

"They flew all three of these young men out to California and did some videos," Deb Ross said. "This company should be complimented on how they took care of them. After that, the voting online was just for these three. We could vote daily up to Dec. 23 for our favorite, and, of course, that was our son. Then they shut down the voting right after that so nobody could know who won until they let the cat out of the bag on Jan. 7."

When the cat crawled out of the bag, it sat in Jordy's lap, so to speak. And it dragged a potful of money with it.

"I was so excited when he won that I cried and I didn't listen to him," she said. "Now I've had plenty of time to get the details and I'm still kind of in shock."

Jordy knew before anyone else he had won because the company flew him to New York for photo work.

"He's going to be on a big billboard in Hollywood around Jan. 20 for this cologne," Deb said. "The billboard will be on the new W Hotel. It will be an 84-foot billboard, plus a 40-foot billboard on the pool side. It's a brand new hotel in Hollywood."

Still a little unnerved, Deb said the only thing she's really sure is that he won and he won a lot of money doing it. And though she's made some suggestions for the use of that money, no decisions have been made.

Sometimes decisions are hard to make.

Even for the Hottest Bod in the World.

So long friends, until the next time when we're together.
