PERRY - The Fort Dodge Senior High volleyball team was crowned champions of the Perry Invitational last night.

The Dodgers finished first in pool play with victories over Harlan (14-21, 21-7, 15-4) and Ballard (21-10, 21-9), and knocked off Roland-Story in the finals by scores of 12-25, 25-23, and 15-12.

"The girls played as a team and showed great enthusiasm and confidence that I haven't seen in a while. We came back in two of our matches and that was tremendous," said FDSH coach Toni Cochrane. " It was a great team effort. Everyone did their job and played hard. That is the strength of this team. We need that each night."

Marisa Gibson (16 kills) and Jacy Scharf (14 kills) led the Dodgers' hitting attack at the net. Maggie Rowden, Sarah Holm, and Whitney Ashbrook added seven kills.

Krista Thompson led the Dodgers in serving (25-for-26, six aces) and digs (36), while Gibson was 23-for-25 serving with four aces, and 17 digs.

Reigan Branderhorst and Rowden finished with 26 assists apiece.
