EAGLE GROVE - A 40-year evangelistic reunion will be Friday through Oct. 31 at Robert Blue Middle School auditorium in Eagle Grove, with services at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday nights.

This celebration is a reunion of people involved when a wave of spiritual renewal swept across central Iowa in October 1970, centering on Eagle Grove with a visiting team of evangelists from the Christian group Youth With A Mission visiting a local church for a Sunday speaking engagement.

Youths from various churches in the community began to respond, and crowds of teens swelled various Bible studies, prayer meetings and school assemblies for the next two weeks. The YWAM Team of Lynn Green and Bruce and Judi Borneman helped the young people begin living their lives centered on Jesus Christ as teachers, parents, pastors and even the police looked on with total amazement.

The month was capped off with a Jesus rally in the junior high school gymnasium, in which local pastors and student participants shared their experiences. An interdenominational group of teens continued to meet for the next year following the departure of the YWAM team.

Lynn Green, now chairman of the YWAM Global Leadership Team, will speak at the reunion, and Bruce and Judi Borneman, internationally-known singers, artists and songwriters living in Rescue, Calif., will return to Eagle Grove to lead worship and minister.

Emcee for the services is Eagle Grove native, the Rev. Ron Kallem, later known as Ron Phillips on the radio and currently host of "Hymn Time" on Sunday mornings.

On Oct. 31, the YWAM Team will minister at the 10 a.m. worship at First Baptist Church in Eagle Grove.

Many who experienced life changes during that season of renewal are returning and the surrounding community is invited to join the celebration services. Freewill offerings will be received. Also, a donation of nonperishable food is requested for the Eagle Grove Food Pantry.
