ALGONA - A teen accused of first-degree murder in the death of Vicky Bowman-Hall, of Burt, has pleaded not guilty to the crime and an additional charge of first-degree robbery.

Michael Swanson, 17, of St. Louis Park, Minn., filed his written plea Thursday in Kossuth County.

Swanson is facing additional charges in Humboldt County for the death of Sheila Myers, of Humboldt. An arraignment for Swanson in Humboldt County is scheduled for Dec. 28.

On Nov. 15, Swanson allegedly robbed the Crossroads gas station in Algona around 9 p.m. and fatally shot Bowman-Hall, who was working the evening shift as a clerk. It is alleged the teen then drove to the Humboldt Kum & Go, robbing that gas station as well and fatally shooting Myers, the clerk on duty. He was later apprehended that evening in Webster City.

There are no plans to combine the two trials.

Swanson is being held in the Kossuth County Jail on a $1 million cash bond.

First-degree murder is a Class A felony punishable by life in prison.
