BARNUM - A 13-year-old Barnum boy was injured midafternoon Sunday in a snowmobile accident.

Ashton Dillon, who was unresponsive at the scene, was taken by ambulance to Trinity Regional Medical Center in Fort Dodge, then flown to a Des Moines Hopsital, according to a report by Sgt. Randy Steinkamp of the Iowa State Patrol.

The boy is the son of Eric Dillon, but no name was recorded for a mother, Steinkamp said.

"The accident was in a bean field just south of the school," Steinkamp said. "He was running westbound - they don't know how fast - and all of a sudden he just started rolling. Flipped. He was wearing a helmet at the time, according to the family member" who was riding another snowmobile with the teen.

Barnum First Responders and the Trinity Regional Medical Center ambulance responded to the call, about 3 p.m.

"It was a wide-open bean field," Steinkamp said. "It looked flat. Nothing indicated that he struck anything. There was nothing obvious that he struck."
