Fort Dodge Senior High drama and speech coach Terry Coleman has been selected to receive the National Federation State Speech, Debate and Theatre Award for the state of Iowa. There are only 17 recipients of the award in the United States this year.

This award has been received by only 19 coaches in Iowa since its inception. Coleman marks the first recipient from Webster County. He was selected by the National Federation of State High School Associations based on recommendations made last fall.

Coleman has been a teacher and coach in the Fort Dodge Community School District for more than 13 years. His teams have been successful, winning numerous Division I ratings and state honors throughout his career. Coleman has also worked as a mentor to young teachers in his role as a supervising teacher.

'Terry works hard at everything he undertakes, no matter how minor the task," said Activities and Athletic Director Tom Kinseth. "He has proven himself a true leader among his peers and students."

With more than 25 years of involvement with the Iowa High School Speech Association, Coleman's speech experience extends beyond coaching. He has managed several district and state contests, and he has served as an Iowa High School Speech Association state officer twice.
