POCAHONTAS - Pocahontas County Extension will offer the Master Gardener program beginning Sept. 6, with eight weeks of educational sessions.

Master Gardeners receive training in growing flowers, vegetables, fruits, shrubs, trees and lawns, then give back to their communities. Pocahontas County participants have been active in programs such as the annual Garden Extravaganza, the Pocahontas Beautification project, the Laurens Trees Forever project and the new trailhead shelter in Rolfe. They have received grant funds from the Pocahontas County Foundation to support their efforts in these projects.

"What really sets them apart from other home gardeners is their commitment to learning and sharing what they learn with others," said Nancy Jenson, Pocahontas County Extension program coordinator.

To sign up for the next Master Gardener class, contact the Pocahontas County Extension office at (712) 335-3103.
