Cruise draws classic vehicles to fairgrounds

A caravan of antique cars and hot rods will arrive at the Webster County Fairgrounds Oct. 2 as part of the 28th annual Cruise to the Woods.

''It's just a fun atmosphere to be around if you like cars and people talking about cars,'' said Kenyon Hinrichs, president of the W.C. Cruisers, which sponsors the event.

Hinrichs said the event is ''one of the largest shows in the state.'' It attracts everything from the earliest motor vehicles of the 1900s to powerful Chevelles and Mustangs of the '60s, he said. Past entrants have included a DeLorean and an antique milk truck.

Last year's event attracted more than 1,400 vehicles.

Vehicles will start their journeys in Council Bluffs, Davenport, Manchester, Mason City, Oskaloosa, Sheldon and Sioux Center, plus Albert Lea and Fairmont in Minnesota. All groups of vehicles will converge in Stratford about 11:30 a.m., and from there will head to the fairgrounds south of Fort Dodge. The vehicles are expected to reach the fairgrounds about 12:30 p.m.

Hinrichs said Dolliver Memorial State Park near Lehigh is a good spot to watch the vehicles pass.
