LAKE CITY - Behind a suffocating defensive effort, No. 10 South Central Calhoun blanked Sioux Center by a 27-0 count in a Class 2A first-round playoff matchup Wednesday.
Kirby Vogel, a 190-pound senior, powered the Titans (9-1 overall) offensively with 76 yards on 17 carries, including a two-yard touchdown run late in the second quarter.
Austin Blair also delivered 51 yards rushing and a score for SCC, while Kyler Case added 42 yards on 13 attempts.
Signal-caller Nathan Christensen of the Titans also went 8 of 14 through the air for 102 yards. Christensen found Blair on a 13-yard endzone strike in the first period and later hooked up with Will Schrad on a 25-yard touchdown midway through the second.
The Titans finished with 307 yards of total offense compared to only 149 for the Warriors (5-5), who committed five turnovers on the night - four fumbles and a pick.
Spearheading the SCC defensive unit with 13 tackles, four sacks and a forced fumble was Colten Riley.
Next up for the Titans is a road battle with third-ranked Spirit Lake (10-0) on Monday.
