County museum has good year

October 29, 2011
Messenger News

To the editor:

The Webster County Museum board of directors would like to thank the Fort Dodge Messenger for their coverage of our second annual fall pancake breakfast on Oct. 16. It was a great success thanks to our volunteers who decorated, cooked and cleaned and to Sparboe Eggs for their donation.

We will be closing for the 2011 season today. The museum had a very successful year thanks to all who supported us with donations, such as a 100-year-old kitchen gas-electric stove, the library table from the entrance of Mercy Hospital, additions to our medical, beauty, barber, items from a number of Webster County towns and more.

A special bridal display is planned for the 2012 season. If you or someone you know might have a wedding dress made by Florence Hoyer that we could borrow for this special display, please contact me. We would also be interested in visiting with anyone who might have an interesting collection or program that they would be willing to share with our visitors.

We are proud of our 11,000 square feet of rearranged displays and the wonderful comments from those that have visited from every town in Webster County, 51 Iowa towns outside our county, 60 cities outside of Iowa and two foreign countries. We have hosted school groups, clubs and organizations and bus tours.

Plan to join us for the 2012 year as a volunteer or make an appointment to bring your group or club to visit what some call Webster County's newest tourist attraction.

We are scheduling the Easter bunny as our first guest. We hope for a fun-filled year and that you will be part of it. As a 501(c)3 organization, your donations to the museum or our gift shop (an ongoing fundraiser) are tax-deductible and very much welcome.

If you have any questions or comments, please call me at 972-4804.
