Sponsors of the Coats 4 Kids program hope to spread some holiday warmth into next spring.

Donations to support the three-year-old project are being collected at Shimkat Motor Co., 3126 Fifth Ave. S., which is working with the Fort Dodge Community School District and Fort Dodge Community Health Center to provide new or used winter wear to needy children.

"We are trying to do as much as we can with the children in the community with donations and clothing," said Ed Shimkat Jr., vice president of Shimkat Motor Co., "We can use any type of donation people can give. Whether it is an article of clothing or a cash donation we can use to purchase clothing, it will help out immensely."

Last year, the goal was to collect more than 1,000 garments.

"Our goal this year is to collect as much as we can during the fall and winter months. If we have leftover clothes, I know that we did well, and we exceeded the need," said Shimkat.

Shimkat Motor Co. is accepting all types of winter wear, including winter coats, hats, gloves, boots and sweat pants now through early spring. Everything will be given out as needed.

"We really do not have a start and finish time period for this program, I would encourage everyone if you have something to donate, bring it in," Shimkat said.
