GOWRIE - The opportunity to participate in the Wreath Raffle in Gowrie is well-marked: There's an A-frame sign in the middle of the street that's difficult to miss announcing the new event.
Marcie Boerner, a member of the Gowrie Development Commission board, said the Wreath Raffle replaces the tree displays done in previous years and that it's much easier to participate in the fund raiser for the Gowrie Swimming Pool.
The wreaths are on display in the window of Lee Benson Motor's showroom, it's possible to view the selection from the comfort of home.
"You can also see them on the city web site," she said.
The $1 chances are available at many merchants in Gowrie. Once purchased, they should be deposited in a box by the wreath at the showroom.
"You can put all your tickets on a favorite or divide them up," she said.
Not only do the winners get the wreath, most come with a bonus donated by the wreath maker such as gift certificates and coupons.
She said the wreaths will be on display at Benson's until Friday when they will moved to Prairie Valley High School where hometown fans and visitors can see them at the basketball game.
The drawing will take place on Saturday afternoon during the Home Based Business open house. This is also at the high school from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and will feature local residents to bake, manufacture metal signs, quilts from T-shirts and make fabric art from supplied photographs.
Boerner encourages visitors to sample what the community has to offer and to stop and shop at business in the city.
"It's a big weekend for Gowrie," she said.
