The First Presbyterian Church Choir will present its 11th annual "Carols and Candles" Christmas concert at 3 p.m. on Dec. 11 at the church, located at 101 N. Main St., in Algona. The theme of this year's musical program centers around "God's Amazing Gift."
"The giving of gifts is an important part of many of our Christmas observances. Yet frequently we forget the gift that God gave to us at the birth of His son Jesus Christ. Using the medium of music and narration we will be asking those present to focus on that gift," said Walter Reemtsma, the church's music and choir director.
The program will feature many familiar carols, as well as a number of new anthems that have been written especially for Christmas. Soloists will be Jason Etherington, Norma Ruhnke, Grace Freeburg and Edna Yocum. Accompanists are Bev Mawdsley on the organ and Kathi Ricklefs and Walter Reemtsma on pianos.
Following the concert everyone is invited to join together for a light supper and fellowship in the church's dining hall. A freewill offering will be taken to help defray concert expenses.
