The Iowa Central Dance Team received first place in two divisions and two Division I ratings at the Iowa State Drill Team Competition in Des Moines.
The is the sixth consecutive year that the Tritons, led by first-year coach Cassidy Vermeer, have participated in the competition.
They competed in the Community College Hip Hop division as well as the Community College Jazz Division. In their hip hop division, Iowa Central competed with four teams, and in the jazz category against two teams.
Vermeer called the Tritons' performances "a huge accomplishment and honor for the team."
"The girls put in a lot of hours and hard work into perfecting the routines, and I couldn't be happier with how things turned out. I am very proud of my team," she said.
In addition, the team recently swept the Community College Divisions at the ISDTA Competition at Wells Fargo Arena. The Dance Team received Division I ratings in its hip hop and jazz routines. They had four other teams in their hip hop division and walked away with the first-place state title. They had two teams in their jazz category and walked away with another first-place state title in that category.
"The girls worked really hard and I couldn't be more proud and happy for my team," Vermeer said. "They definitely deserved the honors of state champions in both of their categories."
