To the editor:
If the end is near, it's becoming quite clear how it came to fruition. Our long-trusted form of "Of the people, by the people, for the people"is now failing us.
We found the weak link.
Or, are we failing "it"?
Our national debt increases on average $3.94 billion per day. Blame no one but ourselves for re-electing the same people - who refuse to address it. They keep telling us we need to stiff the "rich"; blaming the Chinese for manipulating the currency and we continue to borrow money we don't have from them. No one is accepting responsibility. Worse yet, we have no plan to correct it.
They're busy campaigning for the next election - "buying your vote." You gladly cash the check and wait by the mailbox next month to repeat the process. I'm not talking Social Security, tax refunds, etc. - that's your money.
We're living for the moment for very selfish reasons. There are those in federal government who quietly prefer you become dependent upon them. When a newborn baby receives the gift of life, we hand them our gift card with the words: "Glad you made it.
Ever since 1973 and Roe v. Wade, the birth rate has dropped by 3,700 per day. We disparately need your help to pay our bills.
Sorry, but Instead of sticking you with a $13.52 bill on our debt, you now owe us $50,000.00."
No one looked ahead to realize boomers were retiring and few entering the work force to take over.
Brilliant.
Really speaks well of how effective we're doing in managing our governmental affairs.
