BOONE - With a winless regular season in the rear-view mirror, the Fort Dodge girls basketball team will look to turn their fortunes around tonight.

The Dodgers (0-20 overall) will square off with Boone (7-14) in a Class 4A regional opener.

Action begins at 7 p.m.

In their previous outing, FDSH dropped a lopsided 74-32 decision at Ames.

"As a group they are ready to see someone new and start over,'' said Fort Dodge head coach Scott Timmerman. "They're going to go out and earn this and get what we can.''

Dodgers are being outscored by 32.6 points per game and committing 28.2 turnovers a night. Fort Dodge is shooting just 23.9 percent (193-for-806) from the field on the season.

"The girls have been waiting for this time, to put everything behind them,'' Timmerman said. "We have to come out and set things in motion and just have a fresh start.''

Boone has lost four straight games, including a 59-39 setback at Ballard Friday.

The winner between the Dodgers and Toreadors advances to face third-ranked and defending state quarterfinalist Mason City (19-2) in a 4A regional semifinal on Saturday at 7 p.m. in Mason City.

"We've seen them on tape and they're pretty comparable to some of the teams we've seen,'' Timmerman said. "We're going to need to play better than we have all year.''

Freshman Mallory Kilian 5.6, sophomore Ashley Altman 4.6, sophomore Lexi Astor 3.7, junior Mariah Welter 3.6, senior Aspen Stephan 2.9, freshman Lani Van Zyl 5.7, sophomore Tiana Mericle 2.5.

Boone senior Lauren Weber 8.0, senior Amanda Widener 8.9, senior Annie Weaver 7.4, freshman Mariah McPartland 6.8.
