AMES - Karen Cooper, of Jefferson, is exhibiting a collection of 36 paintings in the Gallery at the Iowa State Memorial Union through March 26. Not a traditional portrait artist, "Living Relaxed" features everyday people in everyday situations walking, biking, reading a book on a park bench or sitting at the beach.

Cooper describes herself as "an unabashed people watcher" and catches the essence of people in quick sketches or snaps photos to find inspiration for her paintings. Acrylic paint is Cooper's medium of choice.

Cooper received a degree in Art and Textile Design from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. She is represented by a number of galleries in Iowa and Nebraska and shows her work in juried art exhibits and festivals.

The Iowa State Memorial Union is located at 2229 Lincoln Way in Ames on the ISU campus. The Gallery is on the third floor.

For viewing times between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m., call 296-6848.
