Dems, GOP to hold conventions today

Democrats and Republicans in Webster County will gather today for their parties' county conventions.

The Democratic convention will be held at the Best Western Starlite Village Inn & Suites at the junction of Iowa Highway 7 and U.S. Highway169.

Julia Geopfert, the Webster County Democratic chairwoman, said registration will begin at 9 a.m. and the convention will begin at 10:30 a.m.

She said party members will work on the Democratic platform, elect delegates to the district and state conventions, and pick committee members.

The Republican convention will begin at 9:30 a.m. in the Bioscience and Health Sciences Building at Iowa Central Community College. U.S. Rep. Steve King, R-Iowa, is scheduled to speak at 11:30 a.m.

Chris McGonegle, the Webster County Republican chairman, said delegates to the district convention will be elected, members of party standing committees will be picked, and party platform issues will be discussed.
