EMMETSBURG - Emmetsburg's 51st Annual St. Paddy's Day celebration will feature a strong focus on families, said Billie Jo Hoffman, board secretary for the Emmetsburg St. Pat's Association.
"We'll start Saturday morning with a pedal tractor pull, and there's enough activities to keep the children busy until about 6 in the evening," she said.
"We'll have a ;Juggler with Yellow Shoes; show. He does a little bit of everything - unicyclist, stilt walker, juggler and baloon art."
Hoffman said the biggest event of the weekend was the parade on Saturday.
"They say 10,000 people attend the parade every year. That may be a little exaggerated, but it all depends on the weather."
The pre-parade at 1 p.m. will feature people from the government, she said. It will also showcase the visiting dignitary from Ireland, Maurice Cummins.

Sen. Maurice Cummins, of Ireland
Irish Sen. Maurice Cummins and his wife, Anne, will celebrate St. Patrick's Day in Emmetsburg.
Cummins will be visiting the state Capitol on Thursday prior to his arrival. Once in Emmetsburg, he will participate in activities including visiting the open house at St. Pat's Headquarters on Thursday afternoon. Friday he will attend the Miss Shamrock Pageant and Ceili. Saturday, he will be at many of the day's activities, including the parade.
Hoffman said Cummins would visit the Emmetsburg schools, one of the ways the celebration includes education.
"It's fun for the kids, they like to hear his Irish accent," Hoffman said. "They have a question and answer time, and it always comes up 'Do you eat Lucky Charms in Ireland?'"
Cummins has a distinguished record of public service. He was the youngest member of Waterford City Council when elected in 1979. He has been elected to Seanal Eireann (Senate of Ireland) in 2002, 2007 and 2011 and is the spokesman on foreign affairs.
