The Joe Niekro Foundation has announced that Brain Aneurysm Awareness Week is March 12-18.
Did you know that:
Every eight minutes an aneurysm ruptures,
50 percent of ruptured aneurysm victims die within minutes,
Approximately 6 million people in the U.S. currently have a brain aneurysm,
As many as 1 in 15 people will develop a brain aneurysm,
Aneurysms are most common in ages 35 to 60, but also occur in children,
Women more than men suffer from brain aneurysms, at a ratio of 3:2.
The Joe Niekro Foundation was established in 2007 by Natalie Niekro, in honor of her father, Joe Niekro, who lost his life from a sudden ruptured brain aneurysm on Oct. 27, 2006. The Joe Niekro Foundation - Midwest Chapter/Iowa - will be at the Crossroads Mall, in Fort Dodge this Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Our mission is to support and educate those affected by brain aneurysms, and other non-inflammatory vascular diseases.
The Joe Niekro Foundation offers assistance through mentorship, education, and support group meetings.
We are dedicated to increasing awareness of vascular disease, aneurysm risk factors, causes and treatments, while educating the public on early detection and research funding.
