Opportunity Village is looking for volunteers to raise money and then walk one, three or 10 miles on May 6 in Fort Dodge for the 43rd annual Opportunity Village Benefit Walk.
The Benefit Walk supports the Village's efforts to serve individuals with disabilities.
Walker packets are available at the Village General Store and the administrative office of Northwoods Living in Pine House, 1470 21st Ave. N. Walkers can also email to firstname.lastname@example.org or phone Kris Hillmer-Pierson, 573-4046, to have packets mailed.
Walkers may use sponsor envelopes to collect donations or create online fundraising pages. Donors may sponsor walkers with a check, or they can go to www.firstgiving.com/opportunityvillage or a walker's personal FirstGiving fundraising page to sponsor a walker online by debit or credit card.
IThe 10-mile walk starts at 1 p.m., followed by the 3-mile and 1-mile walks at 2:30 p.m. at Dodger Stadium, 1930 Elmhurst Ave.
The Traveling DJJS deejays from Pocahontas will play tunes with a beat to help walkers at a a brisk pace. A picnic for participants will follow under a tent west of the stadium. Prizes will be awarded to those who have raised the largest amount of sponsorship dollars following the walk around 4:30 p.m.
The nonprofit Opportunity Village serves more than 600 individuals and their families in northern Iowa, including Fort Dodge, Webster City, Eagle Grove and Humboldt, helping them to enjoy meaningful lives in the community. Every dollar the walk raises is absolutely critical as Opportunity Village strives to provide quality services despite cuts in government funding.
The goal this year is $100,000. Last year's Benefit Walk raised a record $132,000 for Village services.
