SAC COUNTY - A teenager has been arrested and charged with sexual abuse after an incident reported to authorities back in February.
Avery Tjossem, 17, turned himself in to Sac County authorities Friday.
He was charged with third-degree sexual abuse and incest, both of which are felonies.
Tjossem, according to a press release from the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation, was released on his own recognizance.
Sac County officials first became aware of an alleged crime on Feb. 27, when a doctor contacted the Sac County sheriff's office to report that a minor girl had been sexually assaulted.
The DCI joined the investigation on March 1 after a request from the Sac County sheriff's office. According to the press release, evidence led them to charge Tjossem with the crimes.
Online court records indicate Tjossem had his initial appearance Friday.
His preliminary hearing is scheduled for May 22 in Sac County.
The DCI said some court records in this case have been sealed due to the sensitive nature of the investigation.
