Alice Vratny, 92, of Fort Dodge passed away on Thursday May 10, 2012 at the Bickford Cottages. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday May 14, 2012 at Epworth United Methodist Church with burial following at Memorial Park Cemetery. The visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Sunday at Gunderson Funeral Home & Cremation Services.

Alice was born in Lehigh, IA on February 17, 1920 to Paul and Erma (Cavanaugh) Sandell. Paul died when she was 8 years old and she was then raised by her mother Erma and step-father Carl Dillman. She grew up in Fort Dodge and graduated from Fort Dodge Senior High in 1937. She married Joseph Vratny on January 28, 1940. She worked as a legal secretary for her uncle Emmett Cavanaugh and later was a homemaker for many years. She was a member of Epworth United Methodist Church and the Fireman's Auxiliary. She served as a leader for the Campfire Girls and also served on the City Election Board for many years. She enjoyed traveling and crossword puzzles.

Alice is survived by her children Don (Bev) Vratny of Blue Springs, MO, Mary Reade of Marian, IA, Sue (Steve) McCormick of Marne, IA and Rich (Judy) Vratny of Fort Dodge; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; her brother Dr. Richard C. (Carol) Dillman and sister-in-law Barb Dillman. She was preceded in death by her husband Joseph Vratny; parents Paul and Erma Sandell; step-father Carl Dillman; brother Don Dillman; baby sister Lavonne; son-in-law Bruce Reade and her special friend and traveling companion Howard Johnson.
