Memorial Day services will be held throughout the area next weekend. They include the following:
Fort Dodge: 5 p.m. May 27, Memorial Ceremony for Civil War unknown soldiers of the Union, Veterans Memorial Park at Badger Lake at Kennedy Park; 9 a.m. May 28, Sailors Lost at Sea ceremony, Veterans Memorial Park at Badger Lake at John F. Kennedy Memorial Park; 10 a.m., the Karl L. King Municipal Band will perform at North Lawn Cemetery (if it rains the performance will be at St. Edmond auditorium); 10:30 a.m., North Lawn Cemetery service begins; 11 a.m., jet flyover.
Algona: 7 a.m. May 28, service at Upper Des Moines River bridge; decoration of graves at area cemeteries immediately following. 10:30 a.m. at the courthouse, dedication of veterans who passed on during the last year. Speaker is Lindsey Moe; Algona High School band will play.
Bode: 10 a.m. May 28, service at Bode Community Center. Coffee and rolls are served.
Burt: 10 a.m. May 28, VFW services at Burt activity complex; immediately following, decorating the graves at township cemetery. Beef burger luncheon at the activity complex after the ceremony.
Clarion: 7 a.m. May 28, American Legion pancake breakfast at Clarion-Goldfield High School; 10 a.m. memorial services at high school gym.
Dayton: 10 a.m. May 28 at Dayton cemetery. In inclement weather, will be held at the Southeast Webster Grand Elementary School gym.
Duncombe: 9 a.m. May 28 at the American Legion flagpole.
Eagle Grove: 9 a.m. ceremony at downtown memorial; 10 a.m. main service at Eagle Grove cemetery, featuring Eagle Grove high school marching band, keynote speaker Darrell Determann, military rites by the Eagle Grove VFW Post and American Legion Post.
Farnhamville: 2 p.m. May 27, memorial ceremony at Reading cemetery. In inclement weather, will be held at American Legion building. Pie and coffee served afterward by the Legion Auxiliary.
Gilmore City: 10 a.m. May 28 at Wolcott Center at the public school. Retired Sgt. Don Trexel will be the speaker. Refreshments will follow the ceremony.
Goldfield: 10 a.m. American Legion memorial ceremony at Glenwood Cemetery. Speaker is the Rev. Sarah Hill. Following the service coffee will be served at the American Legion Hall downtown.
Gowrie: 10 a.m. May 28, at Gowrie township cemetery. In inclement weather, service will be held at the American Legion Hall.
Harcourt: 10 a.m. May 28, Community Center.
Humboldt and Dakota City: Sun up, flag raising at the cemeteries in Humboldt and Dakota City; 9:15 a.m., parade; 9:25 a.m., salute to dead at Sumner Bridge; 9:30 a.m., memorial service at Bicknell Park; 10:20 a.m., Union Cemetery; 10:40 a.m., Corinth Cemetery; 11 a.m., Indian Mound; 11:15 a.m., St. Mary's Cemetery; 11:30 a.m., Courthouse.
Lake City: 1 p.m. Friday, American Legion and VFW putting up flags at the Avenue of Flags at Lake City cemetery. 9:15 a.m. May 28, ceremony at Cottonwood cemetery; 10 a.m. Lanesboro cemetery; 11 a.m. Lake City cemetery, Lake City high school band will play, a flyover is planned, free coffee and cookies served by the Legion Auxiliary.
Lake View: 10 a.m. May 28 at American Legion Hall, 310 Main St.
Lehigh: 10 a.m. May 28, West Lawn Cemetery; 10:30 a.m. at the Bridge
Manson: 10 a.m. May 28, Rose Hill Cemetery; followed by lunch at VFW Post Home.
Otho: 10 a.m. May 28, Otho Cemetery, decorating the graves, ceremony at Veterans Monument, taps; 10:30 a.m. program. In case of rain, program will be held at Otho Methodist Church.
Rockwell City: 10:30 a.m. May 28, Rosehill Cemetery. Speaker is Rex Kleemeier.
Stratford: Friday, Avenue of Flags set up. 10 a.m. memorial service at Stratford Community School.
Webster City: 8:45 a.m. May 28, salute to those lost at sea, Marshall Crippen Bridge on North Des Moines Street, presented by the Legion Auxiliary; 9:15 a.m. services at Cass Center Cemetery; 10:25 a.m. Parade from Des Moines Street to Graceland cemetery and the memorial stage; 11 a.m., services at Graceland cemetery conducted by Commander Randy Youngdale, guest speaker Pat Powers. In case of rain, services will be 10:30 a.m. at Jefferson Gym.
Wesley: 9 a.m. May 28, Memorial Day program at South Park, by the American Legion. 5 p.m., chicken supper at Community Center.
West Bend: 9 a.m. May 28, meet at City Hall for parade. 10 a.m., memorial service at the cemetery.
Whittemore: 9:45 a.m. May 28, parade begins at Whittemore Community Center; Memorial program following the parade at community center. Avenue of Flags on display at Noah's Park.
