Turn Warden Plaza into a park

To the editor:

Increasingly in downtowns across America citizens are creating green spaces to humanize their community. People need parks, both big and small. They are gathering places for groups and individuals and settings for outdoor enjoyment of every kind: markets, celebrations, and festivals. Parks break up the hard surfaces of the urban landscape - cement, asphalt, steel and glass - and replace them with the softer textures of grass, flower beds and trees. The Warden Plaza Hotel, once one of the great attractions of our community, needs to be pushed over so Fort Dodge can reclaim the land and turn it into an urban park. This site is a perfect choice for such a project, since we already have a nice little park right next to the property at Ninth and Central to which the new park can be joined.
