Re: Romney denies targeting classmates for being gay, May 11.
I am appalled that Americans are placing so much emphasis on a prank Gov. Romney played in high school on a peer who "turned out to be gay." With a 8.1 percent unemployment rate and a severe nuclear threat in Iran, I can't help but feel upset about how fixated Americans are on a prank pulled almost half of a century ago. In high school, I had pranks pulled on me and I pulled pranks on others. Today, at age 26, those pranks have in no way defined who I am.
Unfortunately, this episode shows us what we already knew; politics bring out the worst in people through the mudslinging both the right and left side choose to participate in. I hope, come November, that both candidates and voters will have set aside these pseudo issues and are focused on issues that actually affect the future of our country.
