To the editor:

On behalf of the B.A.S.I.C. organization and the Dr. Ed Miller Memorial Scholarship panel, we would like to thank all the applicants who took their time to write an essay.

You all were truly qualified. The decision process was very difficult.

The money for the fund is hard-earned by the group by having garage and bake sales, and simply passing the plate around the table of members. We are proud to see our first scholarship go to two exceptional individuals.

The first honor goes to Will Gormally representing the Fort Dodge Senior High -a young man of great character by being a positive role model for our young kids.

Our second honor goes to Halley Junkman, who represents St. Edmond School. She also is a positive role model by giving up her time and talents to mentor the youth.

This scholarship is to remember the late Dr. Ed Miller. He was a very selfless man who would go out of his way for the betterment of others. The integrity he carried was admired by all who knew him, and those who knew him feel honored to call him friend.

We would like to continue this fund yearly so we may promote the best in others to help the community and their fellow man, just as Ed always did. Thank you.
