DES MOINES - John Berry, 51, of Des Moines, formerly of Duncombe, passed away on Saturday, May 26, 2012, in Des Moines.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 1, at 10 a.m., in the Chapel of the Laufersweiler-Sievers Funeral Home, and 10:30 a.m. at Corpus Christi Church, with Rev. Shane Deman officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery in Duncombe, with Military Rites conducted by the Duncombe American Legion Post 491. Visitation will be on Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m., with a Vigil at 7 p.m., all at the funeral home.
Survivors include his parents, Richard and Mary Berry, of Duncombe; sister, Cathy Gustafson (Ken), of Otho; brother, Michael Berry (Sally), of Des Moines; and children, Michael, Alexis, Miranda, and Nathan; sister, Jennifer Conway (Sean), of Des Moines and their children, Alex and Marco Orozco; several uncles and numerous cousins.

John Richard Berry was born on November 27, 1960, in Fort Dodge. He attended grade schools in Duncombe and graduated from Webster City High School in 1979. Following his education, he worked on the family farm. In 1988, John enlisted with the U.S. Army serving during the Gulf War until his honorable discharge in 1995. He returned to the family farm and later made his home in Des Moines. John was an active member of the Rock Power Church in Des Moines where he spent a lot of his time volunteering and helping people. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends
