ROBERT “JIGGS” FINNEY

Robert "Jiggs" Finney, 84, of Fort Dodge, passed away Sunday, June 3, 2012, at the Fort Dodge Villa Care Center. Memorial services will be 11:00 AM Thursday at the First Covenant Church in Fort Dodge with Pastor Allan Redenius officiating. Burial with full military honors will be in Memorial Park Cemetery in Fort Dodge. Visitation will be from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM Wednesday at the Gunderson Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Fort Dodge.

Robert Eugene "Jiggs" Finney, the son of Harvey and Flossie (Martin) Finney, was born January 13, 1928, in Clare, Iowa and graduated from Pioneer High School. In September 1950, he entered the United States Army and served in the Korean War and received his honorable discharge in June of 1952. On June 5, 1955, Jiggs married Lola Bennett and after their marriage the couple made Fort Dodge their home. Jiggs was a meat cutter and worked for Randall Foods for 22 years retiring in 2000. He loved woodworking, going dancing, and playing cards. He especially enjoyed spending time with his kids and his family. Jiggs could also spend hours watching birds and the squirrels chasing each other.

He is survived by his wife, Lola; three children, Linda (Doug) Johnson of Kanawha, IA, Nora Finney of Fort Dodge, and Ron (Vicki) Finney of Lincoln, NE; 6 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren; 2 sisters, Betty Melton of Des Moines, IA and Coletta Trotter of Fremont, NE; and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by a daughter, Diane Marie Finney; his parents, his brothers, Elga, Earnest, Everett, Martin, Cecil, Harvey, and Raymond; and a sister, Ruby Gilliland.

Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
