ROCKWELL CITY - Leona M. Monson 83, passed away Saturday, June 16, 2012 at the Sunny Knoll Care Centre. Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 20, at the Palmer & Swank Funeral Home, Rockwell City, with Father Richard S. Ries officiating. Burial will be at Clinton-Garfield Cemetery in Rolfe. Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Funeral Home, with a Parish Rosary at 4:30 pm.
Leona is survived by her daughter Shannon Baldwin of Tipton, MO; son Sharvest Nye of Lohrville; 11 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; her sister Marvel Sandvig of Rolfe; and brother Arthur Cruickshank of Cameron, Mo; and half-sister Joyce Murray of Havelock. She was preceded in death by her husband, Millard Monson; daughter Janette Rule in 2007; granddaughter Bobbie Clapper; and parents, Rollin and Ella Julia LuthroeCruickshank.
Leona Maxine Cruickshank Nye Monson was born December 17, 1928 at Gowrie, Minnesota. Leona graduated from Beauty School in Fort Dodge, and was a beautician for over 30 years. On August 27, 1961 she was united in marriage to Millard Monson at Sioux Falls, South Dakota. In 1987, the couple retired and established their home in Rockwell City. In 1998, Millard passed away. Leona maintained her own home until becoming a resident of Sunny Knoll Care Centre in 2011. Leona was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church.
