To the editor:
Once again it is time to express our heartfelt gratitude to the amazing people and businesses who made the fifth annual Sgt. Jon JJ Bonnell Scholarship Ride such a huge success. We are continuously humbled by the generosity of all of those involved. It is all because of that generosity that we were able to award our scholarships this year to Rochelle Starrett and Aaron Poldevaart at Fort Dodge Senior High School and to Nick Clark at St. Edmond High School.
There are so many people involved in making the ride a success each year. We have volunteers, ALR members, business owners and individuals who donate time, money, items for auction and drawings. We are so thankful to all of you. This event would be non-existent without you. Special thanks to the VFW and to Mark and his crew at Amigos. Thanks to Three Eagles Communications for the coverage and to Fort Dodge Police Department for the escort. To the amazing Fort Dodge Fire Department for having the fire truck and the American flag flying at Amigos, it was a wonderful gesture and a truly moving sight for all to see.
We try very hard each year to provide a fun-filled day and are amazed at the number of people who show up to partake. You are the reason the ride is successful. So to all of you 9-to-5 professionals who slapped on your leather, your bandanas and your boots and brought yourselves to our event - God Bless you all. This was our biggest year ever.
Our goal each year is to provide the students of Fort Dodge Senior High and St. Edmond High School assistance with their need for higher education. Our dream is to provide a legacy in the name of Sgt. Jon JJ Bonnell. When people mention his name 20, 30, even 40 years down the road, we want them to remember who he was, that he served his country proudly and that he paid the ultimate sacrifice protecting all of us.
We hope to see you all on Saturday, May 25, 2013. for next year's ride.
