WEST DES MOINES - Despite showing more progress, the Fort Dodge softball team dropped both ends of a CIML Iowa Conference doubleheader with fifth-ranked (Class 5A) West Des Moines Valley Thursday night.
The Dodgers (14-14 overall, 4-8 in the league) fell to the Tigers (19-4, 10-2) by scores of 4-3 and 8-1.
Madi Bodholdt, Jamie Haden and Lexi Astor all went 2-for-3 in the opener for FDSH, which came up just short after Haden was ruled out at the plate for the game's final out after running out of the baseline to avoid the tag by the Valley catcher.
"The positives were that we went toe-to-toe with them in the first game," said Dodger head coach Andi Adams. "We just have to find more consistency."
Emily Grell and Mallory Kilian both had two hits in the second contest for Fort Dodge. Kilian also plated Grell with the lone Dodger run on a RBI double in the sixth inning.
Ally Swartz went deep for the Tigers in game one, while Meagan Jones added a long ball in the finale.
Fort Dodge returns to action today at the Urbandale Invitational. The Dodgers will face ADM in their opener at 3 p.m.
