Taylor Place plan scrubbed by FD City Council

Councilman apologizes for creating ‘political mess’

There will not be a street named Taylor Place in Fort Dodge.

A plan to rename part of Fifth Street Northwest after the family of Councilman Mark Taylor was yanked off of Monday's City Council agenda by Taylor himself.

''I made a big political mess,'' he said. ''I want to apologize to everyone in the town for being so ignorant of politics.''

''I want to get back to business,'' he added. ''I don't want to be the distraction.''

Last week, Taylor placed an item on the agenda which would have renamed Fifth Street Northwest south of Hawkeye Avenue to the dead end as Taylor Place. His family owns all the property along that that road.

With that item off the agenda, the council moved on to several business items, including the approval of a 3 percent raise for members of United Steel Workers Local 11-502. That raise, included in the existing union contract, goes into effect July 1. The union represents public works and clerical employees.
