KATHLEEN DICKERT

Kathleen Dickert, 90, passed away June 24, 2012 at the Marian Home having been surrounded by her Iowa and Michigan families. Kathleen was born in Sedan, Kansas on July 23, 1921 to Emery and Myrtle (Ostland) Cooper. She graduated with a teaching degree from Pittsburg State University in Pittsburg, Kansas and later joined her parents who had moved to Battle Creek, Michigan. It was there that she met the love of her life, John R. Dickert to whom she was united in marriage on March 23, 1947. Kathleen rejoined the teaching profession in 1961 when she became a kindergarten teacher at Washington Elementary School in Battle Creek. She retired in 1981. She remained in Battle Creek, volunteering for many years at the Balloon Festival. Kathleen was a member of First Baptist Church in Battle Creek, Battle Creek Retired Teachers Assn., NEA, MEA, ADK Teacher Sorority, and PSU Alumni. In 2008 she moved to Fort Dodge, most recently residing at the Villa Cottages.

Kathleen was preceded in death by her parents, husband John (June 7, 1988), two brothers-in-law and a daughter-in-law. She is survived by her sister, Virginia Stone of Brevard, North Carolina; her children John (Bob) Dickert, Jr. and Ruth Anne Morris (Bill Holder) of Battle Creek, Michigan; Debra Isenhour of Westland, Michigan; and Diane (Stephen) Pratt of Fort Dodge; seven grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and two nephews. She also leaves behind many dear friends and caretakers at the Villa Cottages and Marian Home.

Services for Kathleen will be held in Battle Creek, MI on June 30, 2012. Richard Henry Funeral Home, Battle Creek, Michigan, is in charge of arrangements. Memorials in Kathleen's name may be left to Almost Home Humane Society of Fort Dodge, IA.
