AMES - Despite a scrappy effort, the Fort Dodge softball team had to settle for a CIML Iowa Conference split against Ames Tuesday night.

The Dodgers (17-17 overall, 6-10 in the league) recorded a 6-5, nine-inning victory in the opener and dropped the nightcap, 5-4.

Lexi Astor, Emily Grell, Mallory Kilian and Haley Rustvold all collected three hits in game one for the Dodgers, who swept the earlier meeting with the Little Cyclones (16-18, 3-11) at Rogers Park. Maddie Egli's single plated McKinna Teske with the go-ahead run.

"I was proud of how we fought all the way until the last out," said FDSH head coach Andi Adams. "All of our seniors did an excellent job (last night)."

Megan Gibson earned a decision in both games.

In the second contest, Fort Dodge took an early 3-0 advantage before seeing Ames rally back with four runs in the fourth and one more in the sixth.
